Technical Operations Manager

Our affordable instruments and open reagent platform are used by some of the most impactful researchers and life science companies around the world.
We're searching for a hands-on Technical Operations Manager to lead our hardware manufacturing and supply chain, drive new product introduction, and make continuous efficiency and quality improvements.

What You'll Do

  • Plan, implement, and manage long-term hardware production activities, process improvements, NPI, ECOs, and validations
  • Ensure the manufacturability of products by working with a cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, and biological scientists throughout the R&D and NPI process
  • Improve product quality by analyzing post-market failures, OOS, and CAPA non-conforming events by driving root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of quality issues and implementing corrective actions
  • Establish an organized department structure and hire and develop production technicians, manufacturing engineers, and quality personnel
  • Implement all aspects of an ISO 13485 quality system as it pertains to hardware manufacturing
  • Design, modify, scale, and maintain manufacturing processes and rework procedures to increase efficiency and reduce costs
  • Provide hands-on support of inspection, assembly, and troubleshooting during production
  • Manage supply chain including supplier quality, inventory levels, and purchasing
  • Generate and review engineering and manufacturing documentation including drawings, schematics, BOMs, SOPs, FAIs, and TMs
  • Evaluate, select, and manage US and Asian-based vendors and contract manufacturers; maintain good vendor relationships
  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers and key vendors on process issues
  • Proactively implement quality and productivity improvements (reduce COGS, increase efficiency, equipment acquisition)
  • Work with finance to ensure cost accounting is accurate, and identify variances and cost reduction opportunities

You Have

  • BS or MS degree in Engineering or similar field
  • 7+ years experience with manufacturing operations including 3+ years in a management role
  • Highly skilled in SolidWorks and experienced creating technical drawings, prints, and schematics
  • Extensive knowledge of quality systems and ISO 13485
  • Ability to handle FDA inspections and supplier quality audits
  • Excellent manager and leader of people
  • Understanding of machining, sheet metal fabrication, injection molding, 3D printing
  • Experience managing contract manufacturers and/or assembly line processes
  • Experience with biomedical devices, thermal engineering, or optical systems are a plus
